And that’s the truth :) I am very proud of myself today. I went to the track and ran the fastest lap I have ever run. I ran 1/4 mile in one minute and 40 seconds – so translated to minutes per mile, that would have been a 6:40 mile! That is the fastest I have ever run, well, when timing myself I guess. Then I ran two separate 1/2 miles and did them both at an 8 minute per mile pace.
I think I really hit the nail on the head by jumping from slow long distance to fast short distances. My marathon fitness and endurance is peaked, so now I’m running fewer miles but I can really get more quality workouts from them. I want to get fast! And it’s working so far. When I warmed up, my easy shuffle jog turned out to be between 10-11 minute mile pace – that is a minute faster than my previous warm-up pace of the 12 minute mile. Man, I have been stuck in that 12 minute mile rut for months – years even. Now I’m breaking free!
I haven’t set up any reasonable goals yet, I’ll have to chart them out, but I intend to keep up quality running sessions. I think I’ll try for two laps at 6:40 pace, and a full mile at 8 minute pace. And it would be awesome if I could do a 5 minute mile. Even if I can only do one lap at that speed, I would feel like I was flying.
I want a shirt that says ‘Runs Like a Girl’ – a badass girl!
