I am still recovering from the weekend – I ran 15 miles!!! I’m darn proud of myself. I even got to do it OUTSIDE. This is a big deal up here where the weather goes between 28 and 40 degrees F. But I was fine, the sun was out and it wasn’t too windy. I had two long sleeve shirts on, a fleece lined windbreaker vest (snuggly!) which was also bright red so cars would see me on the roadside.
The first 9 miles were cake. I felt really strong. My running partner Johanna had taken a few weeks off of running and had gone rock climbing the day before, so at 4.5 miles when I said cheerfully, “We’re halfway done!” She replied with a big grunt that said OMG so far to go! I was doing great though.
Despite the fact that I was carrying two, count em, two water bottles with me. See, I’ve figured out that cranapple juice with a bit of salt is THE perfect sports drink for me. It’s easy to digest; I don’t get the runner’s “uh oh, potty break soon” feeling in my stomach . Plus, the natural fructose of the fruit juice just feels like a better match for me as an energy replacement; sugary sports drink with glucose and high fructose corn syrup really make me crash, big time. So, on I went with my run carrying a bottle of juice and a bottle of water. lol. What a sight. I do plan to carry the juice in a camel back for the marathon and I’ve been training myself to drink water at the same intervals as the marathon water tables will be in the race.
I did a little 3miler today and I was LAGGIN. I don’t think I was completely recovered yet. Maybe I’ll take a day off tomorrow and pick up again on Wednesday.
Hope everybody had a great weekend!
